The Comfort of a Cookie

There is just something so comforting to me about having a warm, homemade chocolate chip cookie baked fresh at home. The perfect amount of soft with the sweet and salty mixed in. My children love to help me with this recipe, and we all enjoy the end product. We make these cookies together about every other week or so.

What You’ll Need

Ingredients to Gather

  • Salted butter (softened)
  • All-purpose flour (unbleached)
  • Brown sugar
  • Cane sugar
  • Large eggs (2)
  • Pure Vanilla Extract
  • Baking soda
  • Sea Salt

Making the Cookie Dough

First things first, cream together in your mixer the softened butter with the brown sugar and cane sugar.

Next, add the eggs (one at the time) making sure they are mixed in with the butter and sugars well. Add the vanilla extract and the pink Himalayan salt, also.

In a separate bowl mix the dry ingredients together. The reason for this is it will evenly distribute the rising agent throughout the dough better. Leaving you with a more consistent cookie.

Once the dry ingredients are mixed together in a bowl, slowly add them into the butter and sugar mixture a little at the time until fully incorporated.

Then add your chocolate chips! We measure with our hearts in this house 🙂 (*Option: you can substitute white chocolate chips for the dark)

Prep the Baking Surface

Whatever you decide to use to cook these on will need to be prepped. I like to smear some butter to the bottom of our baking sheet. Coconut oil is a good option or olive oil. Just so the cookies won’t stick to the pan while cooking.

Use the cookie scooper (I love this thing). I also use it for things like cake batter or pancake batter. So handy!

Scoop the chocolate chip cookie dough onto the baking sheet. Space about 1-2 inches apart.

Baking Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies

Bake the chocolate chip cookies in a preheated oven (375 degrees F) for 10 minutes.

When you bake these cookies, they may not “look” done at the ten-minute mark, but that’s ok. They will finish baking on the baking sheet and be the perfect consistency. Transfer to the cooling rack.

You don’t want to over bake these cookies. They won’t be soft if they are over baked. Let them finish cooking on the baking sheet a few minutes before moving them to a cooling rack.

Storage of Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies

After the cookies have cooled and if you have resisted tasting them warm ;), you’ll want to transfer them to an air-tight container to store. In a zip lock bag or a container for up to 1 week. They don’t last that long in our house and I’m sure it’ll be the same for you!
